GLSCL Hall of Fame welcomes Keefe, Grissom and Leahy

TROY, Ohio - The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League is proud to officially announce three new members to its GLSCL Hall of Fame. Two of the inductees, Tom Keefe and Darrel Grissom were introduced at the 2026 GLSCL All-Star Game on July 22 at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio. The third member of the class is Lima Locos President Dr. Bill Leahy, MD. The Locos organization made the decision to surprise Bill with his induction before a home game at Simmons Field on July 24.

Tom Keefe (Class of 2026)

In 1990, Tom Keefe became General Manager for the Cincinnati Spirit replacing the departing Cincinnati Indians. Playing its home games at Crosley Field II in Blue Ash, the Spirit spent four seasons (1990-93) in the GLSCL winning the league championship in 1992 defeating the Sandusky Bay Stars. Spirit president Mike Jones was the driving force in getting Keefe involved with the organization and he later succeeded Jones as the team's president. During his time with the Spirit, 41 players went on to play professional baseball with seven of them reaching the major leagues. Following the 1993 season, Keefe joined the professional scouting ranks initially with the Florida Marlins. Since 2003 he has been a scout with the Los Angeles Dodgers with the franchise winning three World Championships during his tenure. Tom is a steady presence at many GLSCL games and events including the GLSCL All-Star Game and Prospect Showcase held at Prasco Park. Tom and his wife Debbie have two daughters and five grandchildren.

Darrel Grissom (Class of 2026)

Darrel Grissom co-founded the Hamilton Joes in 2009 winning a championship as the head coach in just the franchise's second season in the league. This was the beginning of a run leading to a total of five GLSCL championship titles (2010, 2016, 2021, 2022 and 2024) and two runner-up finishes (2015 and 2025). Grissom retired as head coach after the 2012 season becoming the full-time President and General Manager of the Joes. The team's best run came from 2021-24 winning the GLSCL title three times in four years. The franchise has 85 alumni players that have played in professional baseball, eight of which that has made it to the big leagues. Grissom is also a 2025 inductee of the Miami University-Hamilton Hall of Fame where is was the head coach for 23 seasons (2000-23) winning 723 games. Darrel and his wife Jill have been married over 50 years having three children and eight grandchildren. His son Adam was head coach of the Joes from 2013-19 leading Hamilton to the 2016 GLSCL Championship.

Dr. William Leahy, MD (Class of 2026)

Bill Leahy grew up playing baseball as an elementary school student but found that his path into a career in baseball would come off the field. He remained passionate about the game and after graduating from the Ohio State College of Medicine and Public Health in Columbus, Ohio, he found his way to the Lima Locos organization. Bill joined the team as a board member and in 2000, taking over from Barry Ruben as the team President in 2005. Leahy was inspirational in the team's move from Shawnee High School to Simmons Field ahead of the 2008 season. The move opened a previously untapped revenue stream for the team of selling beer to its passionate fans. During Leahy's tenure the team has been ultra successful on the field winning six GLSCL Championships (2011, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2023, 2025) and posting five runners-up finishes (07, 13, 16, 21, 22). Dr. Leahy is a successful family physician in the Lima area working as a board-certified physician specializing in family medicine and wellness. The Leahy Family Care & Wellness Center, a comprehensive medical practice, is independently owned and operated by Dr. Leahy. He is a top-ranked family medicine physician and has been serving local residents for over 15 years.

ABOUT THE GREAT LAKES SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUE 

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
