The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League (founded in 1987) would like to explore feasibility with any individual, group, community or college that would like to join us in providing affordable, high quality, family-oriented sports entertainment for your community. We hope that every GLSCL game is an event.

Another goal of our league is to provide a safe place for players to grow and develop their skills. Because many players come from outside our area, it is a distinct possibility a future MLB star will be hosted in your area for the summer. They become members of your community and their host families who function as role models for your youth.

If you have an interest in exploring the possibility of please feel to fill out the form below or reach out directly to our teams of myself at glsclcommish@gmail.com. The league office will reach out for further discussions.

Below is a bit of background information that may help you decide whether or not to proceed.

Each organization will need the following four main things. They will need financial backing, a local connection, a workable facility (field) and quality baseball personnel.

1. Franchise start up (membership) fee is between $20,000 and $30,000 to be paid over the new team's probationary period.

2. A typical yearly budget is between $85,000 to $100,000. This cost is off set by player fees, gate receipts, concession sales, beer sales (if possiblie), streaming proceeds, donations, fundraisers and advertising sales (signage, streaming etc).

3. A typical GLSCL facility ideally will need...

a. to seat between 400 and 600 fans.
b. a permanent restrooms, concessions and pressbox (electrified with seating for at least 8 people).
c. a quality lighted playing surface (turf infield or a grass with a tarp is stongly recommended) with lighted bullpens.
d. dugouts that can hold up to 30 players and coaches.

4. You will need to draw an average of 300 fans per night.

5. The season consists of 36 to 44 games (18 to 22 home games) and runs from early June to late July (followed by the playoffs into first few days of August). This means there will be 6 games a week (usually off on Mondays).

6. You will need to host some players. Rural areas will need to host more players than suburban areas. Developing a host family network is important iin the long run.

7. We will need to provide players with a positive experience in order to attract the maximum quality as possible. They will need safe living conditions, quality coaching (hopefully with college or pro experience), the ability to work out (weight room, batting cage and field access during free time), safe tansportation and hotels when needed, be fed good quality post-game meals and be treated well by host family and team personnel.

8. The use of sports management/stats/broadcaster interns is incouraged.

9. We try to creat a college/minor league player and fan experience on game day. In game promos, advertising and entertaining public address is encouraged.  If you make it an event (fun), they will come.
