GRAND LAKE MARINERS vs. LIMA LOCOS - DH
MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Lima Locos snapped the Grand Lake Mariners 18-game winning streak in resounding fashion sweeping a double header by scores of 21-0 and 7-4.
The North Division leading Locos improved its record to 26-8 and are just one game behind the South Division leading Mariners (27-7) for the overall number one seed in the upcoming GLSCL playoffs.
Adam Guillet's (Louisiana Tech) mastery on the mound combined with overwhelming offensive support proved to be too much for the Mariners to handle in the opener. Guillet pitched a one-hit shutout in his first start of the season improving his record to 2-1. Guillet, who had made seven previous bullpen appearances with two saves, recorded a season high 10 strikeouts allowing just one walk.
Guillet joins teammate Grant Jolly (Marshall University), the current GLSCL Pitcher of the Week, as the only GLSCL pitchers to record a complete game victory and a save this season.
Lima threw a series of haymakers to begin the game combined with Grand Lake pitchers struggling with control on the mound. The Locos scored nine runs on just five hits sending 17 batters to the plate.
The first trip through the lineup saw the Locos tee off at the plate starting off with RBI-doubles by Cameron Greene (Southeastern Louisiana University) and Shane Miranda (Notre Dame). After an RBI-single by Parker Dastou (Mercer University), Braylon Cordonnier (Marshall University) smacked a two-run double.
The Mariners pitching change after just seven batters didn't seem to walk for the opposite reason. Instead of hitting the ball around the yard the Locos went station-to-station thanks to free passes. Avery Wilson (Kennesaw State) was issued a base-loaded walk forcing home Cameron Owens (University of Kentucky). Grant McGuire (Winthrop University) and Miranda were each hit by a pitch with the bases juiced also forcing in runs from third base.
The Locos poured it on with five more runs in the second inning scoring at least once in every inning during the game. Wilson boasted the best offensive line in the game reaching base in all five plate appearances going 3-for-5 with two doubles, two walks, three RBI and three runs scored.
In the night cap, the Locos broke up a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning thanks to a two out rally. Gabe Gonzalez (Mercer University) and Cordonnier reached on back-to-back walks followed by infield single off the bat of Owens loading the bases. Lima broke the tie when Gonzalez was forced home after Tyler VanSumeren (Kennesaw State) drew a bases loaded walk.
Miranda provided a pair of insurance runs with a two-run double in the top of the seventh inning.
Konnor Quinn (Southern Indiana) capped a three-inning relief performance retiring the side in order after giving up a lead off walk in the bottom of seventh inning. Quinn improved his record to 2-1 after giving up just one run on two hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
C.J. Filipek (Lawrence University) and Huston Dunn (Ball State University) each had three hits for the Mariners and Brandt Kendall (Ball State University) hit a solo homer leading off the third inning.
The series moves to Lima on Wednesday as the Locos go for the series victory with first pitch at Simmons Field scheduled for 7:05pm.

HAMILTON JOES @ MICHIGAN MONARCHS - DH
SOUTHGATE ANDERSON HIGH SCHOOL - The Michigan Monarchs have not had a conventional season this summer to say the least and that trend continued on Tuesday afternoon against the Hamilton Joes at Southgate Anderson High School.
The day began with the two teams picking up suspended game that was halted due to the weather in Hamilton back on June 17. The first game of a double header scheduled for that game was tied 5-5 in the top of the fifth inning. That set up a scenario for the two teams needing to complete five games in a three day period.
The game resumed and was played out to its seven-innings conclusion with the Monarchs picking up a 6-5 victory. In the seventh inning, Maddox Bach (UIndy) reached on a one-out walk advancing around the base path stealing both second and third base. With the potential go ahead run standing on third base, Evan Morrison (Macomb CC) was also walked putting runners on the corners. Ryan McKay (Macomb CC) drove in Bach with a sacrifice fly taking the 6-5 advantage.
Michigan reliever Owen Shimel (Schoolcraft College) retired the Joes in order securing the victory for the Monarchs.
The regular scheduled game didn't go along as planned as that game was suspended before the start of the fifth inning in what was described on the broadcast as an injury to the home plate umpire. It was said that he was hit with a foul ball and after finishing the half inning could no longer continue. At the time of the interruption the Monarchs lead the game by a score of 7-4.
With a double header already scheduled for Wednesday, the suspended game can't be resumed until Thursday ahead of a regularly scheduled game. All four or those games are set to take place at Southgate Anderson High School in Southgate, Michigan.
