GLSCL Recap - July 1
The Mariners extend its win streak while the Locos earned two wins. The Joes stay hot and the Clippers wins its second straight blowout victory in front of its home crowd.
GRAND LAKE MARINERS 3 XENIA SCOUTS 2 - FINAL
MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Grand Lake Mariners extend its season-high winning streak to eight games with a workmanlike 3-2 victory over the Xenia Scouts.
Grand Lake (17-5) clinches the series victory over the Scouts staying atop of the GLSCL South Division standing.
The Scouts (8-15) got off to 1-0 lead in the third inning when Dawson Cleveland (Harding University) reached on a base hit leading off the inning and scored on an RBI-single by Steven Schneider (Maryville University).
In the fourth inning the Mariners took advantage of two Xenia errors scoring three runs to take the lead. With the bases loaded, Huston Dunn (Ball State University) reached on an error allowing Luke Wildes (St. John's River State College) to score from third base. Matthew Hutchinson (Yale University) followed with a sacrifice fly driving home Parker Vaughn (Lansing CC) from third base. Brandt Kendall (Ball State University) then reached on an infield single deep into the hole with Solomon Harwood (University of Sciences & Arts) scoring all the way from second base.
Xenia rallied in the eighth inning with Cleveland producing an RBI-double driving in pinch hitter Bo Solley (Harding University) from first base. Cleveland was thrown out at third base on the play for the first out trying to stretch it to a triple eliminating the go ahead run off the base paths.
Alex Dues (Marietta College) came out of the Grand Lake bullpen slamming the door on the Scouts for the second consecutive night. Dues fielded a pair of come backers to the mound for the first two outs. Dues allowed a two-out double to Cole Rohlmeier (The Masters University) before securing the win with a game ending groundout.
Dues recorded his fourth save of the season to go with his 4-0 record which is tied for most in both categories on the GLSCL leader boards.

Wildes and Kendall each had two hits for the Mariners. Cleveland went 3-for-3 for the Scouts with two doubles.
The Mariners go for the series and season sweep winning all eight games against Xenia so far this year. The Scouts to avoid that fate when first pitch is scheduled on Thursday for 7:05pm on Grady's Field at Browne Stadium.
LIMA LOCOS vs. MICHIGAN MONARCHS
SIMMONS FIELD - The Lima Locos held off the Michigan Monarchs rally in the sudden death 11th inning that began the night before winning the game after its was resumed on Thursday at Simmons Field.
The game went to a 10-10 tie after ten innings on Tuesday at Southgate Anderson High School which is a facility without lights. The sudden death inning was allowed to begin but was suspended due to darkness with the Monarchs in the middle of a potential game winning rally.
The Monarchs chose offense after winning the coin flip placing the automatic runner, J.T. Thomas (Saginaw Valley State), on first base. Thomas advanced to third base on a throwing error during a pickoff attempt. After Cole Novara (Michigan State commit) struck out for the first out. Ryan McKay (Macomb CC) was intentionally walked creating a possible double play. McKay stole second base and Emmanuel Gutierrez (Henry Ford CC) was hit by a pitch. At that point the umpires decided to suspend the game with the bases loaded and one out.
Once the game was moved to Lima on Wednesday the Locos were able to bring in one of its starting pitchers Garrett Byrd (Winthrop University). Byrd sets down the only two batters he faced with a strikeout and a fly out giving the Locos the win when the Monarchs failed to score in sudden death.
The Locos went on to win the regularly scheduled game in less dramatic fashion by a score of 3-1.
Two Lima pitchers combined to hold the Monarchs to just one run on five hits. Wyatt Dion (Central Florida) got the start earning his second win of the season. Dion went six innings giving up just one unearned run scattering three hits striking out five and walking just two batters. Ryne Michaeloff (Southern Indiana) pitched the final three innings for his second save of the season. Michaeloff did not allow a run giving up just three hits registering three strikeouts.
The Locos go for the series sweep and its five straight win when the two teams return to Hillsdale College for the series finale.
HAMILTON JOES 14 SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 5 - FINAL
FOUNDATION FIELD - The Hamilton Joes pummeled the Southern Ohio Copperheads for the second straight night this time 14-5 at Foundation Field.
Kamden McAlpin (John A. Logan College) went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored. Brady Bowen (University of Akron) and Gavin Brewer (University of Cincinnati) also chipped in with two hits and two RBIs.
The Joes (11-9) have somehow quietly won six games in a row moving into second place of the GLSCL South Division standings.
Hamilton scored five runs in each of the second and third innings taking a commanding early advantage.
The Joes are now in the driver's seat to securing the second playoff spot for the GLSCL South Division. Hamilton lead the third place Xenia Scouts with a four-and-a-half game leading the standings race.
The Copperheads (4-19) are on the opposite end the spectrum falling for the sixth straight time as it tries to avoid being swept when the series wraps up Thursday at Bob Wren Stadium.
MUSKEGON CLIPPERS 17 FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 2 - FINAL/7 Innings
MARSH FIELD - The Muskegon Clippers won its second consecutive blowout game in front of its home crowd with a 17-2 mercy rule victory over the Flag City Sluggers.
The Clippers (12-11) scored 11 runs in the sixth inning while sending 17 batters to the plate. Taylor Head (Freed Hardeman) led off with a solo home run and later hit an RBI-single in the inning. Isaiah Domey (Michigan State) hit a two-run homer during the barrage of offensive for his third round tripper of the year.
Muskegon racked up 17 hits on the contest which ties for the most in a GLSCL game this season. Domey, who scored a game-high four runs, along with Nick Moss (Milligan College) and Brayden Turner (Dyersburg State) each contributed three hits.
Andrew Pohlmann (Saginaw Valley State) earned the win for the Clippers going five innings giving just one run on three hits. Kellen Payne (University of Nevada) pitched the final two innings also surrendering just one run and three hits.
Flag City (14-9) came into the series as one of the hotter teams in the league but have fallen on hard times during its trip to Muskegon. The Sluggers look to avoid being swept when the series wraps up at Marsh Field on Thursday at 5:05pm.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
