GLSCL Recap - June 26
The Clippers and the Sluggers each walk it off in front of its home crowd. The first place Mariners win its fourth in a row and the Joes versus Scouts game is suspended due to inclement weather.
MUSKEGON CLIPPERS 3 LIMA LOCOS 2 - FINAL
MARSH FIELD - The Muskegon Clippers (10-9) used some late inning heroics walking off the first place Lima Locos 3-2 on Friday Night at Marsh Field.
Clippers first baseman Isaiah Domey (Michigan State) accounted for all three Clippers runs including scoring the game winner on a sacrifice fly off the bat Justin St. Antoine (Kellogg CC).
The Locos (13-4) struck first scoring in the top of the first inning when Shane Miranda (Notre Dame) was issued a bases-loaded walk forcing home Elijah Buffaloe (Central Florida).
The score remained 1-0 until the bottom off he seventh inning when Domey hit a towering two-run home run down the left line into the yard of one of the houses beyond the left field fence.
Lima bounced back in the top of the eighth inning tying the score at 2-2. Cameron Greene (UT Martin transfer) lead off with a double to the left centerfield gap scoring on an RBI-single by Parker Datsou (Mercer University).
Domey led off the bottom of the ninth reaching on a double. The Clippers went on to load the bases with no out and Domey standing at third base. After Drake Roa (University of Michigan) lined out for the first out of the inning, St. Antoine stepped to the plate. St. Antione hit a fly ball to medium depth right center field. Domey tagged up from third beating Cameron Owens' (University of Kentucky) throw to the plate giving the Clippers the 3-2 victory.
Domey was 3-for-4 at the plate just a triple short of hitting for the cycle.
Five Muskegon pitchers combined to allowed eight Lima hits. Hudson Lubbers (Aquinas College) pitched a scoreless ninth inning earning the victory for the Clippers.
Lima starter Grant Jolly (Marshall University) pitched five shutout innings scattering four hits and one walk while striking out three batters. Greene went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Locos.
The middle game of the series takes place on Saturday at Marsh Field with the first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm.
FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 14 MICHIGAN MONARCHS 13 - FINAL
MARATHON DIAMONDS - The Flag City Sluggers overcame a three-run deficit scoring four runs in the bottom of the ninth walking off the Michigan Monarchs 14-13 at Marathon Diamonds.
Will Barnes (Maryville University) got the rally started leading off the inning with a double advancing to third on a passed ball. Barnes scored on an RBI-groundout by Cameron Spezia (Oakland University). The Sluggers then loaded the bases on back-to-back walks and a hit batter. Atticus Huffstutler (University of Akron) also grounded out driving in a run with Brett Reed (Madonna University) crossing the plate.
Miles Mitchell (New Orleans commit) was the hero pulling a two-out single down the left field line driving in Trent Smith (Owens CC) with the tying run and Mickey Anderson (Montgomery College) with the game winner.
The Monarchs (5-12) wasted a 13-hit offensive performance in route to its fourth straight loss. Cole Navara (Michigan State commit) went 5-for-5 at the plate, tying the GLSCL season high for most hits in a game, along with stealing three bases. Maddux Bach (UIndy) drove in five RBI going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
The Sluggers (12-7) offense bounced back after being held to just four hits the night before in Xenia. Smith and Mitchell each had three hits out of the team's 17-hit total. Barnes scored a team-high three runs with Spezia contributing three RBI.
Aidan Murphy (Warner University) got the victory out for the Flag City bullpen improving his record to 3-0 on the season.
The series continues in Findlay on Saturday at Marathon Diamonds with first pitched slated for 6:05pm.
GRAND LAKE MARINERS 15 SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 8 - FINAL
MONTGOMERY FIELD - The first place Grand Lake Mariners extended its winning streak to four games with a 15-8 win over the Southern Ohio Copperheads on Friday at Montgomery Field.
The Mariners (13-5) remain atop of the GLSCL South Division standings five full games ahead of the second place Xenia Scouts.
Southern Ohio (4-15) led the game in the early going taking a 4-3 advantage after scoring three runs in the third inning. The Copperheads took initial 1-0 lead on a first inning solo home run by Brady Kaufman (Princeton University). The Mariners answered scoring three times in the bottom off the first.
The Copperheads used the long ball again this time tying the game 3-3 on a two-run homer from Jayden Kennedy (Russell Sage College). Eli Mandler (Seton Hill University) gave the Cheads the lead back scoring on an RBI-single by Cole Davis (Adrian College).
Grand Lake answered by scoring five times in the bottom of the third. The Mariners were able to score two runs on a two-base error, a run on a passed ball, another run on a wild pitch and the fifth on an RBI-groundout.
This gave Grand Lake an 8-4 lead that the Mariners would never relinquish.
Solomon Harwood (University of Sciences & Arts) was one of the heroes for the Mariners going 2-for-4 scoring four runs. Three other Mariners batters, Hutson Dunn (Ball State University), Matt Aldridge (Pitt Community College) and Brandt Kendall (Ball State University) also enjoyed two-hit games.
Alex Dues (Marietta College) pitched two and 2/3 innings out of the Grand Lake bullpen. Dues earned his GLSCL leading fourth victory of the season giving up just one run on two hits.
The series heads east to Athens with the Mariners going for the series victory and its fifth straight win. First pitch on Saturday at Bob Wren Stadium takes place at 7:05pm.
HAMILTON JOES 9 XENIA SCOUTS 3 - SUSPENDED/Top 4th Inning
FOUNDATION FIELD - The Hamilton Joes were leading the Xenia Scouts 9-3 in the top of the fourth inning when the game was suspended due to heavy rain on Friday night at Foundation Field.
The game will pick up at the point of interruption on Saturday in Hamilton at 5:05pm and will be completed as a nine-inning regulation contest.
The regularly scheduled game for Saturday will now be a seven-inning contest and will take place approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the suspended game.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
