GLSCL Recap - June 24
The Joes snap the Locos nine-game win streak. The Sluggers stay hot with its eighth win in last nine games. The Mariners clinch series victory while the Clippers and Copperheads split double header trading shutout performances.
HAMILTON JOES 10 LIMA LOCOS 1 - FINAL
FOUNDATION FIELD - The Hamilton Joes snapped the Lima Locos nine-game winning streak in dominating fashion with a 10-1 on Wednesday at Foundation Field.
The Joes pitching staff put in a great performance especially when the offense got off to a sluggish start during the early innings.
The game was scoreless until the fifth inning when Lima's Cameron Owens (University of Kentucky) lead off with a double coming around to score on a sacrifice fly by Avery Wilson (Kennesaw State).
That was only run the Locos would score as three Hamilton pitcher's held the Lima offense in check.
Charlie Dieruf (University of Cincinnati transfer) got the start throwing four shutout innings giving up one hit and four strikeouts. Eli Wager (North Greenville), Dieruf's high school teammate at Covington Catholic High School, pitched the middle three innings earning the win. Hudson Boring (Panola College) came in for the final two innings only allowing two hits while striking out four batters.
The Joes (6-9) broke the game open in the fifth inning scoring six runs. Alex Koelling came to the plate with the bases loaded smacking a bases clearing three-run double. It was Koelling's only hit of the night but it set tone giving Hamilton a 3-1 lead.

After a Locos pitching change, Koelling scored on an RBI-single by Owen McKoon (Louisiana Monroe). Brady Bowen (University of Akron) was driven home on a sacrifice fly by Gavin Brewer (University of Cincinnati) and McKoon scored on a wild pitch.
Hamilton added three more runs after the seventh inning stretch. Noah Wagster (Earlham College) drove home McKoon and Parker Falkenstein (Wright State) produced a two-run double. McKoon scored his third run of the night in the eighth inning when he was forced home on a bases loaded walk issued to Wagster.
The loss for Lima snaps a GLSCL season high nine-game winning streak. The Locos still lead the GLSCL North Division standings boasting the league's best record at 13-3.
The rubber game of the series takes place at Simmons field on Thursday with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 10 XENIA SCOUTS 0 - FINAL/7 Inning
MARATHON DIAMONDS - The Flag City Sluggers continue its torrid pace making short work of the Xenia Scouts with a 10-0 mercy-rule victory on Wednesday at Marathon Diamonds.
Flag City (11-6) gained a game in the North Division standings winning its third straight game and eighth out of its last nine games. The Sluggers remain in second place now two-and-a-half games behind the Lima Locos.
The Sluggers scored runs in sixth out of the seven innings played with Drew Tajblik (University of Toledo) walking it off on his RBI-single that drove home Atticus Huffstutler (University of Akron).
Mickey Anderson (Montgomery College) led the way going 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and three RBI. William Barnes (Maryville University) blasted his first home run of the season, a two-run blast in the fifth inning. Jovanny Skrelja (Tiffin University) also chipped in with two hits, two RBI and two stolen bases.
Three Sluggers pitchers held the Scouts to just two hits on the night earning its fourth team shutout of the season.
The two relief pitchers were especially good starting with Jackson Urenovitch (Bowling Green State). Urenovitch went two and 1/3 shutout innings earning his third victory of the season while striking out two batters and giving up just one hit and one walk. Julius Robichaud (Oakland University) pitched the final two innings without giving up a run surrendering just one hits and one walk.
The Sluggers go for the series sweep when the finale of the three game set moves to Grady's Field at Browne Stadium. The Scouts (7-10) look to avoid that fate when first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
GRAND LAKE MARINERS 6 MICHIGAN MONARCHS 4 - FINAL
MONTGOMERY FIELD - The Grand Lake Mariners clinched the series victory defeating the Michigan Monarchs 6-4 at Montgomery Field on Wednesday night.
The win has special meaning in the overall improvement of the Grand Lake franchise improving its record to 11-5 on the season. The Mariners 11th win on the year equals the win total from each of the last two seasons.
Grand Lake had four different batters with two hits apiece totally 11 for the game. Matthew Hutchinson (Yale University) lead the way with a double and a two-run homer in the sixth inning.
Christian Douglass (Lansing CC) earned the victory coming out the Mariners bullpen. Douglass improved to 1-1 on the season pitching three and 1/3 shutout innings only giving up one hit. Bryce Eggleton (West Virginia State) wrapped up the night pitching the final three innings giving up just two unearned runs and notching three strikeouts for his first save of the season.
The Mariners will go for the sweep of the season when the series moves to the state of Michigan on Thursday. The game has been moved to Grosse Ile High School in Grosse Ile which is just outside of Detroit. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35pm.
MUSKEGON CLIPPERS @ SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS - DH
BOB WREN STADIUM - The Muskegon Clippers and Southern Ohio Copperheads spilt a double header with each team benefiting from complete game shutouts. The Copperheads won the opener 3-0 while the Clippers took the nightcap 4-0.
In the opener, Southern Ohio starter Brody Mann (Ohio Dominican) pitched a three-hit gem only needing 79 pitches to finish off the Clippers. Mann registered seven strikeouts giving up just two walks and three hits only allowing two base runners to reach scoring position.
The Copperheads (4-14) broke the seal early when Eli Mandler (Seton Hill University) singled leading off the first inning. He advanced to second base on a passed ball scoring on an RBI-single by Zach Reeder (Siena Heights).
Brady Kaufmann (Princeton University) scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Caudill (Southwest Tennessee CC) in the fourth inning. Caudill then scored a run of his own in the sixth on an RBI-groundout by Konnor Pittman (Frostburg State transfer).
Muskegon reversed its fortunes in the second game winning 4-0 on a two-hit shutout pitched by Maddux Kipling (Michigan State). Kipling scattered two hits and three walks while striking out six batters.
The Clippers offense only needed three hits with the big blow being a bases clearing three-run triple off the bat of Caden Thelen (Grand Valley State).
Muskegon wins the series taking two-of-three games evening its record on the season to 9-9.
After getting a day off on Thursday both teams return to action on Friday against the respective division leaders. The Clippers welcome the North Division leading Lima Locos to Marsh Field for the start of a three-game weekend home stand. The Copperheads travel to Celina taking on the South Division leading Grand Lake Mariners.

The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
