Joe Lafkas wins GLSCL Player of the Week Award
Joe Lafkas of the Grand Lake Mariners who plays for Ball State University is the GLSCL Pitcher of the Game.
GLSCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - June 15, 2026
Joe Lafkas - Grand Lake Mariners - Ball State University
Joe Lafkas made two starts for the Mariners earning the win in both of the them pitching a total 10 innings. Lafkas has notched a GLSCL-leading 16 strikeouts with just one walk, a 2-0 record and a 1.80 ERA on the season.
The right hander was especially dominant in his second start on June 13 against the Muskegon Clippers. Lafkas went six innings striking out a league season high 11 batters and was perfect through the first 4.2 innings.
The Cincinnati, Ohio naive is a graduate of Turpin High in Anderson Township where he played for head coach Don Gullett, Jr. Lafkas just finishing up his freshman season at Ball State where he made 12 appearances throwing 12.2 innings. He has a 1-1 record striking out 19 batters while allowing 14 walks.
HONORABLE MENTION - Pitcher of the Week
Sid Phillips - Xenia Scouts - Toccoa Falls College
Sid Phillips pitched seven shutout innings in two appearances including five in his only start against the Michigan Monarchs on June 11. Phillips has only given up just two runs, three hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters.
Aidan Murphy - Flag City Sluggers - Warner University
Aidan Murphy has probably been the most dominant closer through the first week of the seasons. Murphy was made four appearances for the Sluggers earning a win and three saves. In seven innings of work Murphy has only allowed two hits, one walk, hit one batter and registered six strikeouts.
Alex Dues - Grand Lake Mariners - Marietta College
Alex Dues could probably lay claim to being the most "valuable" pitcher in the first week of the season. The sidearm reliever has developed into a feared closer making six appearances earning three wins and two saves. He has 12 strikeouts on just three walks allowing threw walks, two runs and four hits.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
