The Clippers only two runs came on solo homers by Justin St. Antone (Kellogg CC) and Jonnie Gifford (Paris Junior College).
The Mariners are off to its best start in years coming off of back-to-back 11-win seasons. The franchise's last winning record was in 2023 when it finished 20-18 for a third place showing in the South Division standings.
Grand Lake will have a chance to show if its the real deal or not this coming week. The Mariners, the leader in the GLSCL South Division standings, will play a three-game series against the North Division leading Lima Locos.
The series is the resumption of the GLSCL longest standing rivalry. Lima was a charter member of the GLSCL beginning play as the Lima Blues in 1987. Grand Lake was part of the league's first expansion coming into the league in 1990 along with the Sandusky Bay Stars.
The Locos will host on Tuesday and Thursday while the middle game on Wednesday will take place at Montgomery Field in Celina.
LIMA LOCOS 11 SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 6 - FINAL
BOB WREN STADIUM - The Lima Locos finished off an impressive three-game series this weekend on the road with an 11-6 victory over the Southern Ohio Copperheads at Bob Wren Stadium.
The Locos (7-2) sit atop of the GLSCL North Division standings three games ahead of both the Flag Sluggers and the Muskegon Clippers.
Lima third baseman Braylon Cordonnier (Marshall University) hit a three-run homer in the top of the first inning getting the Locos off to a hot start.
The Locos scored twice more in the second inning with Avery Wilson (Kennesaw State) accounting for both runs. Wilson doubled down the left field line driving home Desmond Francis (Notre Dame). Wilson advanced to third on a fly out and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Grant McGuire (Winthrop University).
Southern Ohio (2-7) cut the Locos lead in half 6-3 scoring three runs in the fourth inning. The Copperheads broke the seal scoring on a two-run error. Landon Baker (Salem University) singled to center field driving home Eli Mandler (Seton Hill University). The "Cheads" scored again in the sixth when Mandler's RBI-single brought home Wyatt Fether (Clarion University).
The Locos put the game out of reach scoring five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Cameron Owens (University of Kentucky) highlighted the scoring provided a two-run double and later scored on a triple by Francis.
Fox Spears (Hanover College) hit a two-run homer in the ninth for the Copperheads but all that did was change Locos the margin of victory. Adam Guillet (Louisiana Tech) recovered from the homer to finishing off the Copperheads and securing the victory.
After the league-wide off day, the Locos will play host to the Grand Lake Mariners in a battle of divisional leaders. The Copperheads will hope to bounce back for being swept by hosting the Flag City Sluggers for three games beginning on Tuesday night.
FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 3 HAMILTON JOES 2 - FINAL
MARATHON DIAMOND - The Flag City Sluggers avoided being swept going on the road beating the Hamilton Joes 3-2 at Foundation Field.
The Sluggers (4-5) lead through out holding off a late threat by the Joes for the one-run victory.
Alex Grissinger (Tiffin University) reached on a hit to right field in the third inning coming around to score on a bases loaded single by Tim Leark (Maryville University).
Flag City took advantage of two errors by the Joes in the seventh inning extending its lead to 3-0. Grissiner reached on the first error and scored on a four-base Hamilton error in left field allowing Mickey Anderson (Montgomery College) to circle the bases.
The Joes (4-5) narrowed the gap in the eighth inning scoring two runs on Flag City wild pitches. With the bases loaded, Parker Falkenstein (Wright State) struck out on a wild pitch allowing Owen McKoon (Louisiana Monroe) to score from third base. A.J. Gundler (Lincoln Trail) later scored on a wild pitch as well cutting the Slugger lead to 3-2.
Aidan Murphy (Warner University), one of the top closers in the league slammed the door on the Joes in the ninth inning. After striking out the first two batters he faced, Murphy allowed a single to the Joes third basemen Brady Bowen (University of Akron). Representing the tying run, the Joes tried to advance Bowen into scoring position with a stolen base attempt. That plan was squashed when Sluggers catcher Ty O'Brien (University of Toledo) gunned down the would be base stealer ending the threat and the game.
The Sluggers will travel east to Athens on Tuesday begging a three-game series versus the Southern Ohio Copperheads. The Joes remain home welcoming the Michigan Monarchs for the first of three at Foundation Field.
XENIA SCOUTS 17 MICHIGAN MONARCHS 13 - FINAL
GRADY'S FIELD - The Xenia Scouts made it three consecutive late inning come-from-behind victories sweeping the Michigan Monarchs on a walk off grand slam winning 17-13 on Grady's Field at Browne Stadium.
Owen Roether (Southwest Tennessee CC) was the hero for the Scouts hitting a ninth-inning grand slam homer with the score tied 13-13 for the win.
The difference this time was that Xenia lead for a decent portion of the game with the Monarchs playing from behind.
Michigan tied the game 8-8 in the sixth inning when Casey Robertson (High Point) singled to left field driving in Bret Perry (UIndy).
The game stayed tied 8-8 until the ninth inning when the Monarchs scored five runs taking what many probably thought was an insurmountable lead. Perry cleared the bases with a three-run double capping off the inning giving Michigan a 13-8 advantage.
Anyone who thought that lead was safe hadn't watched the first two games of the series.
The Scouts (5-4) loaded the bases starting the inning with a leadoff single by Ethan Moore (North Alabama), a walk issued to Roether and a single to center by Zachary Pearrow (UT Dallas commit).
With the Monarchs (2-7) apparently out of pitching they were asking Hank Blackburn (Eastern Michigan) to finish the game after entering in the fifth inning. Despite his valiant effort Blackburn run out gas and the Scouts took advantage.
After the bases were loaded with no outs, five runs scored on bases loaded walks issued to Scouts hitters tying the score 13-13.
Roether came up to the plate for the second time in the inning sending a ball into the night score over the fence for the grand slam walk off homer. Roether capped a 4-for-5 night with the grand slam, a double, four runs scored and five RBIs.
Pearrow contributed three hits and catcher Ethan Papalios also drove in five RBIs for the Scouts.
Perry went 3-for-6 with a double and four RBIs in a losing effort for the Monarchs.
